LACUNA COIL Frontwoman On Italian Food, Drinking And Male Groupies

March 9, 2006

FHM magazine recently conducted an interview with LACUNA COIL frontwoman Cristina Scabbia. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

FHM: You've toured the U.S. extensively. What's your take on Italian chains such as Olive Garden and Papa John's?

Cristina: "I can sound like such a bitch when I talk about Italian food in America. I'm always saying, 'Eh, that's not real Italian.' My vice is definitely gluttony. I don't care about being in shape. I don't know what a diet is."

FHM: Can you cook?

Cristina: "I love to cook. It's hard to pick a favorite recipe, but lately I've been making penne pasticciate. My recipe for it will bring Italian flavor into your kitchen."

FHM: What do you enjoy most about cooking or food?

Cristina: "I like everything. I love the fact that you can always experiment because every dish is always a creation. You can try to copy a recipe but then in the end you can always personalize it by adding something or taking something away. I like everything, the smell, the color, the food, and the way you present it is also really important to me. I love everything about food, there's nothing I dislike."

FHM: Why do American metal guys only drink cheap beer and Jaëgermeister all the time?

Cristina: "I have no idea. Probably because Jaëgermeister is really strong, and you can get wasted faster. As far as I noticed, a lot of people just like to get wasted — they like to drink because they like to get wasted. In Italy, it's way different. You can enjoy a drink without having to get trashed. We care more about the flavor of the drink. As for me, I'm in love with wine."

FHM: How do your male fans treat you?

Cristina: "They're nice in front of me. They don't behave like female groupies do with guys. If a male fan showed me his private parts, I would be like, 'What the fuck do you want?' I'd also laugh at a guy who was convinced that he could get me with such a stupid trick.

FHM: Do you own an "Italians do it better" T-shirt?

Cristina: "I do. Sexually speaking, I'm not sure if it's true for Italian men, because I haven't tried a guy per nation. But I can say that I'm pretty good."
